EIS project shortlisted for innovation award

08 August 2022

The English Institute of Sport (EIS) has been shortlisted in the Innovation category for the Leaders Sports Awards 2022, in recognition of the ground-breaking Hormonix project, which was developed in partnership with Mint Diagnostics.

Hormonix is an innovative and game-changing new technology that makes female hormone monitoring simple, offering athletes a detailed insight into their menstrual cycle and enabling more individualised, precise health and performance support.

The technology increases the capability of analysing hormones in high frequency in a non-invasive way, using saliva rather than through needles or blood, and the data is returned in a time-efficient manner, to allow the athlete and their support staff to act on the results.

As well as being trialled by a number of elite athletes from eight different sports, Hormonix was also successfully implemented at Manchester City Women in the 2020/21 season, providing detailed insight into players’ menstrual cycles.

Hormonix has already gained awards recognition this year, with the EIS being named as winner of the Cutting Edge Award at the prestigious Sport Industry Awards back in May.

Now the EIS and Mint Diagnostics have been shortlisted again, this time for the Leaders Sports Awards, which are scheduled to take place on Tuesday 27th September 2022.

Dr Richard Burden, Co-Lead for Female Health at the EIS, commented: “We are delighted to have been shortlisted for the Leaders in Sport Innovation award. Our partnership with Mint Diagnostics is an excellent example of sport and technology organisations coming together to develop something truly pioneering.

“Improvements in the provision of female health and performance support are much needed in sport and wider society, and we are leading the way.”

Leaders in Sport connects senior industry leaders, through inspiring events, topic-led communities and cutting-edge intelligence, with the aim of professionally developing sport on and off the field.

Leaders recently partnered with the EIS to produce ‘The Art Behind the Sports Science’, a special report on the impact on high performance sport made by the EIS since its inception in 2022, which is available to read here.
