WHO WE ARE
The English Institute of Sport (EIS) works in partnership with sport to improve performances through the delivery of excellence in sport science and medical support to elite athletes.
Achieving medal success on the world stage for the sports and athletes we support is our focus and, under the leadership of Chairman Steve Cram MBE and National Director Conor O’Shea, our vision is to be the world’s leading provider of performance-impacting sport science and sport medicine in elite sport.
The EIS, as provider of choice in England, works across Olympic and Paralympic summer and winter sports, as well as English sports and is currently providing support to approximately 1700 elite athletes around the country.
WHERE WE WORK
Service provision from EIS High Performance Centres is available across three directorates, North, Central and South, led by Regional Directors. Hub and satellite sites across each directorate offer a network of leading expertise and facilities to create a high performance environment, ensuring flexibility and accessibility for athletes, coaches and governing bodies of sport.
WHAT WE DO
The EIS offers support services including: Physiotherapy, Medicine, Strength & Conditioning, Performance Nutrition, Sports Psychology, Physiology, Biomechanics, Performance Analysis, Performance Lifestyle, Soft Tissue Therapy and Talent Identification. We take an inter and multi-disciplinary approach to delivery where knowledge and expertise is shared, offering significant added-value to the sports we support.
LEADING THE WAY
In order to stay at the forefront of international competition, our approach provides highly integrated, quality-assured services and the development of world leading experts who are driving innovation and sharing knowledge to positively impact sporting performance. Which is why we are aiming to become the employer of choice for leading experts within the field of sport science and medicine.
IN PARTNERSHIP
The EIS works closely with each National Governing Body (NGB) of sport to determine the specific sport science and medicine requirements necessary to make a performance impact at an international level in their sport.
The EIS is a grant funded organisation through UK Sport. Olympic and Paralympic sports are able to engage with the EIS through their World Class Programme funding from UK Sport, English sports through their Sport England funding and professional sports through their funding bodies.
In addition to working in partnership with other sports organisations, including UK Sport, the British Olympic Association, the British Paralympic Association and Sport England, a number of external partnerships exist to bring specific expertise, products and innovations to the table, thus ensuring the EIS leads the way in the application of such to high performance sport.
CREATING A LEGACY
In order to build a lasting legacy of sporting achievements on the world stage, the development of a sustainable network of sport science and medical expertise and world class facilities is vital to the sporting high performance system. As well as driving further advancements at our High Performance Centres, we are committed to developing our experts, ensuring the best team is in place to support medal winning performances for 2012 and beyond.
